Exercice corrigé de thermodynamique

Vérifier une relation de Maxwell sur une adiabatique

Exercice 36 · Leçon 7 — Structure mathématique : les relations fondamentales

  • relation de Maxwell
  • gaz parfait
  • adiabatique
  • capacité thermique molaire
  • dérivées partielles

Énoncé

Pour un système fermé de composition fixée,

dU=T dS−P dV.\mathrm dU=T\,\mathrm dS-P\,\mathrm dV.

On considère un gaz parfait de capacité thermique molaire cVc_V constante et on note γ=cP/cV\gamma=c_P/c_V, avec cP−cV=Rc_P-c_V=R.

  1. Déduire de la différentielle de U(S,V)U(S,V) la relation de Maxwell (∂T∂V)S=−(∂P∂S)V.\left(\frac{\partial T}{\partial V}\right)_S =-\left(\frac{\partial P}{\partial S}\right)_V.
  2. Calculer le membre de gauche à partir de TVγ−1=constanteTV^{\gamma-1}=\text{constante}.
  3. Calculer séparément le membre de droite en utilisant P=nRT/VP=nRT/V et dS=ncV dT/T\mathrm dS=nc_V\,\mathrm dT/T à volume constant.
  4. Vérifier que les deux résultats coïncident.

Indication

Indication
Dans la question 1, identifier T=(∂U/∂S)VT=(\partial U/\partial S)_V et −P=(∂U/∂V)S-P=(\partial U/\partial V)_S, puis permuter l'ordre des dérivées.

Solution détaillée

Solution
1. Les variables naturelles de UU sont SS et VV. On a donc

T=(∂U∂S)V,−P=(∂U∂V)S.T=\left(\frac{\partial U}{\partial S}\right)_V, \qquad -P=\left(\frac{\partial U}{\partial V}\right)_S.

Comme les dérivées croisées de UU sont égales,

(∂T∂V)S=∂2U∂V∂S=−(∂P∂S)V.\left(\frac{\partial T}{\partial V}\right)_S =\frac{\partial^2U}{\partial V\partial S} =-\left(\frac{\partial P}{\partial S}\right)_V.

2. Sur une adiabatique réversible, TVγ−1=KT V^{\gamma-1}=K. En différentiant à entropie constante,

Vγ−1 dT+T(γ−1)Vγ−2 dV=0.V^{\gamma-1}\,\mathrm dT +T(\gamma-1)V^{\gamma-2}\,\mathrm dV=0.

Après division par Vγ−1dVV^{\gamma-1}\mathrm dV,

(∂T∂V)S=−(γ−1)TV.\left(\frac{\partial T}{\partial V}\right)_S =-(\gamma-1)\frac{T}{V}.

3. À volume constant, P=nRT/VP=nRT/V, donc

(∂P∂S)V=nRV(∂T∂S)V.\left(\frac{\partial P}{\partial S}\right)_V =\frac{nR}{V}\left(\frac{\partial T}{\partial S}\right)_V.

Or dS=ncV dT/T\mathrm dS=nc_V\,\mathrm dT/T à volume constant, d'où (∂T/∂S)V=T/(ncV)(\partial T/\partial S)_V=T/(nc_V). Ainsi

−(∂P∂S)V=−RTcVV.-\left(\frac{\partial P}{\partial S}\right)_V =-\frac{RT}{c_VV}.

4. La relation de Mayer donne R/cV=(cP−cV)/cV=γ−1R/c_V=(c_P-c_V)/c_V=\gamma-1. Le membre de droite vaut donc −(γ−1)T/V-(\gamma-1)T/V, exactement comme le membre de gauche.
